the plan for having the beds which surround the Horticultural Hall in a blaze of bloom all the season by pigment changes of the plants in them. Mary E. Gilpin had been impressed by the sight of a potato over a foot long, a string bean a yard in length and a pumpkin weighing 150 pounds, and Dr. Kirk had been interested in a map of the apple belt and specimens from all sections of it. Eliza Brooke's timely suggestions as to the work to be done during the month were listened to with appreciative attention, and then the President gave the chair to John Bentley who has kindly consented to allow him an opportunity to enjoy that part of the proceedings in a way which he has not had the privilege of doing for many years.

The questions were

5 What are the three best cherries for family use? [Mayduke Kentish common, Early Richmond, Cardinal, Black Tartarian, and oxheart were all recommended.

6 What is a practical way of destroying caterpillars? Cutting the webs off and burning them, Shooting them off with powder and burning off while on the tree

7 What is the latest time time for planting sweet corn? About the middle of July one has a good chance of a crop, but corn has been used planted a month later

8 Do onions exhaust the ground more than most crops? It is not known to be the case

9 Who would advise planting celery as Henderson does in single rows?

10 What is the time to plant out celery? The middle of this month

The Society then proceeded to the garden and to the examination of the Exhibits which wer from

Longwood, beans, peas, potatoes, onions, beets, carrots parsnips, a fungus and flowers

Norwood; cabbage, onions, parsnips radishes potatoes and peas

Riverton; carrots, salsify, potatoes, corn raspberries and flowers

Rockland, corn, cabbage, and flowers

Rock Spring, corn, cauliflower, cabbage snap beans, beets and potatoes.

At the usual hour, the members and numerous guests assembled. The members from Fair Hill and Stanmore were absent. Our guests were Sarah Lea, Jennie Lea, Mrs Harry Gilpin, Mrs. Stone, the misses Sutch Mrs. Corrie Stabler Charles M Stabler, Anna Stabler Gertrude Miller Mary Stabler of Alexandria Mrs. Augusta Needles Edith Bentley Mary B. Thomas May Thomas George Farquhar and wife, Sallie Needles and George Cook

The specimens were good, vegetables numerous and of good quality, and a fine display of flowers: From Norwood, parsnips, carrots, salsify, celery, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers sweet corn, peas, Lima beans, cabage grapes and Nasturtiums Alloway corn, egg-plant, tomatoes Lima beans, peaches and flowers Longwood parsnips, carrots, beets cabbage, corn, onions, potatoes, salsify watermelon and canteleupe.
