which lasts just as long, that is to say six months,
shining beautiful and clear. There is another place
in Ireland that burns both night and day, and it is
called the purgatory of Saint Patrick. This place
is so dangerous that if any people should go there who
are not well-confessed and repentant of their sins,
they will immediately be taken away and lost,
in such a manner that no one will know what has become
of them. And even if a person is confessed of his sins and
repentant and has done true and owed
penitence for those sins, performing recompense and having
true contrition, if he sins again without being
cleansed in every regard, the torments he
suffers as he undergoes this journey, which is common to all,
will be all the more grievous. And when he has returned
from this purgatory, nothing he sees in this world
will ever please him again, nor will he ever wish to
laugh at anything he might come upon. Rather
he will weep and shudder continually on account of
the great sins and outrages that he sees are done to others
every day. On this island there is a very high mountain
of suffering that burns ceaselessly night and day. In Britain,
