Description

Ellwood Patterson Cubberley (1868-1941) joined the Stanford faculty in 1898, then left to work on a Ph.D at Columbia University, awarded in 1905. He returned to Stanford in 1906 as a Professor of Education and served as founding Dean of the new School of Education from 1917 to 1933. He wrote a series of books, the Riverside Textbooks in Education, beginning in 1911, and on his retirement donated the invested proceeds from the book sales to fund the construction of a School of Education building and establish the Cubberley Lecture Series.
