Description

Nelson Appleton Miles (1839-1925) served in the Civil War and eventually rose to the rank of Lieutenant General. From 1895 to 1903 he served as the final Commanding General of the U.S. Army before the position was abolished. He was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1892 for distinguished gallantry in the Civil War.
