Dear Madam,

Please pardon the liberty I
take in expressing my sincere condolence
in your crushing bereavement.

My dear Bishop Newman introduced me
to yourself and the Sentator, though I
coud not expect you to remember the
occasion. Bishop Fowler of San Francisco
is a staunch friend of mine, and a College
class mate for four years, at old Genesee
I will only add, if I can be of any use
to you in Washington, I will be glad to
serve you - I pray God to supply you
with all needed grace, I am with great
respect
