My dear Mrs Stanford,-

Since the
sacred hour that
my son and myself
spent at Palo Alto,
when the doors
closed upon the
dear companion
of your life, I have
been absent in Kern
County, and down
the coast, and have
been so engrossed
by business cares

life may be granted
to you, and that
you may see a full
realization of all
that your dear
ones and your-
self have planned.

As I feel that
I must not intrude
upon you in
these hours, so full
of bitter grief, I
want my message
to tell you how
