Saltillo Mex 12/19/1901 My Dear Mrs. Stanford; Pardon my audacity in addressing you thus but I feel sure you will give my poor little appeal at least kindly attention if nothing more. I have been reading so much of your kind charity both in papers & magazines, that I thought perhaps you would help me just a wee bit, how grateful I'd be & how happy twould make my heart. I am mgr & day opr at Saltillo, Coah, Mex. for the Nae Mex. Ry Co. trying to support two little children both quite small, it takes almost every cent I can make to feed them & pay house rent, leaving a scant surplus for clothing. I had hoped to give them a little taste of Christmas but have had to abandon all hope as the cold season is here & both the little ones need shoes & warm clothing & if, Ah! well I've given up the idea of Christmas.
