We arrived home night
before last & this is the
first opportunity to write
you that I have had
since I left San Francisco
& secured the beautiful
gift you send by Carter
I cannot tell you how
much I appreciate the
beautiful present, not

only on account of its own
worth but because it speaks
to me of you. I sense I
have learned to know
you & the Senator I see
the good & happiness
you are scattering on your
way. I feel greatly
drawn to you & most
gladly claim you as a
near friend. I must
again thank you for the
great pleasure you
gave us all while with
you & if you could only
