[answered July 7th/95] Hotel del Coronado San Diego June 30th 1895 My dear Mrs Stanford I arrived here in California again a week ago and was going to write you but did not find the opportunity, but now I cannot resist congratulating you on the decision of the Court in your favor of the question between you and the Government. I hope this will finish it, and you can go on with your good work without fear of any further interruption. I have written you twice without receiving an

answer, but I cannot think you do not care enough for me to want to hear from me and I know I want very much to hear from you. I think of you so much, with all your cares and duties and loneliness. I believe Judge and Mrs Field are on this side they told me they were coming the last time I saw them. I hope I will see them but am not sure as I do not know whether I shall try to go to San Francisco or stay here all summer which was my intention but I do not like it as well as Del Monte. Do please let me hear from you and believe me most devotedly and lovingly your friend E. W. Miller

La Maison Blanche [Dinan ?] Cotes du Nord France March 5th 1896 My dear Mrs Stanford I might have known when you were so warmly in my heart that I thought of you day and night, that I was going to hear from you, or of you very soon I only wrote two days ago feeling I could not wait and to day I see in the telegrams from home that the Supreme Court has decided in your favor. I am so rejoiced I must write and tell you. I know now what a joy it will be to you
