the day at Palo Alto was perfect - I was glad indeed we waited for the bright beautiful day - We found the carriage waiting at the station & everything was all that could have been desired. Mr. Ramsey enjoyed the driver immensely & what shall I say of Mr. Hodges - he was as agreeable as it was possible for any one to be devoted his whole time to us & when we tried to excuse him - he said "he wished to carry out Mrs Stanfords directions" & would not leave us.

What a beautiful charming spot - & what a monument the University is - words cannot do justice to the subject. Why could not the one who planned it & loved it so been spared to enjoy it! We drove
