jaunts & last to find myself in my old girl hood house again. This return has been different from any other. Many of my dear friends have joined the Great Majesty among them my dear Father so in order to pass time agreeably & satisfactorily I devoted most of my time to church & charitable work. There is a wide field for both Mr. Sharp & I have almost decided that it will be best for me to take my boy & go to Germany for a year or longer in order to give him & myself a good start in the study of German. I am trying to make my plans to go in January. It will be such an [?] & long trip. Of course Mr. Sharp may decide at the last moment to have us join him on the Pacific Coast or at Honolulu on steamer the "Philadelphia" maybe - but we think [?] will

Pacific Squadron in June & after a long journey at last reached Honolulu in October. I venture to tell you this, dear Mrs. Stanford remembering how kind & interested you always were to me. The last time five years ago it was that he sailed away from me you were one of the few friends to cheer me with wonderful love & advise.
Many things have fallen on my lot since June. A trip to the World's Fair among other pleasant

When I wrote you in June, my motive then was to beg & convey to you my deep sympathy for your great sorrow. I have thought of you so many times & felt how great a boon your great faith in Our Heavenly Father must be to you. be better for me not to beg to follow him as my boy must begin to "settle down" to his studies. I am waiting also to hear from a friend who may go with me, otherwise see how to go alone with Sandy. He is getting to be such a fine fellow, so large & strong. I remember that you are a friend of boys. I find my heart goes out to all boys.
Mr. Sharp is on the Flagship of the Pacific Squadron The Philadelphia She is one of our fine, modern cruisers.
