Mrs Leland Stanford
Madam,
Incited by the telegram from you
to Senator Mitchell, which appeared in the papers
this morning, I take the liberty of writing you
and enclosing a cutting from a paper in
response to Senator Voorhees eulogy.
Where one traducer speaks rancorous words
more will be thousands to honor the memory
of Leland Stanford, and ready to testify to the
nobility of his nature.
The esteem, reverence and admiration I
entertained for your husband I trust will be
sufficient apology for addressing you.
Respectfully,
Jos. Cairn Simpson
