To Mrs Stanford
Dear Madam,

There are persistent rumors to the effect
that, at the close of the "World's Fair" in St Louis, Mr Scott-
Brook is going with the Organ to Kansas City, and that he
will not return to California. I myself have
not heard from Mr Brook since he left, but if the
rumors have any foundation of truth in them,
I presume he would early inform you of his intentions
in this direction.

Therefore in the event of a possible vacancy
for the position of Organist and Choirmaster at the
Memorial Church, I beg respectfulluy to offer my
services as Brook's permanent successor, and
to present for your kind perusal and consideration
my credentials etc., the same which I submitted to
Mr Brook when I applied for the position I am now filling.

Should you honour me with the appointment,
it would, in the future as in the past be my constant
endeavour to be worthy of it in every way, and in the
duties of the office, to earnestly carry out your desire
for all that is elevating and beautiful in the noble
monument of love and faith which you have
caused to be erected in the Leland Stanfor Junior
University.

I am, Dear Madam,
Your obedient and humble servant,
Joseph Smith
