My dear friend May

I hasten to let you know the candy reached us safely but the dear sweet card with its tender words was sweeter to my heart than the candy was to my taste although it was a reminder all through the journey of one whom I hold dear to my heart. I have

some of it yet to enjoy in the future.

We had a very exceptional trip not a ripple to impede our headway and we reached Washington in four days and sixteen hours. I find it very pleasant here dear Mrs & Miss Grant and her daughter Mrs Satoris are here and they have taken me under their loving wings and I am at their table with them. This helps me. I do not feel so alone

H. D Sheldon Esq Prest. Associated Students

Dear Sir:

Your telegram sent to my San Francisco house has just reached me, having been forwarded by Mr. Lathrop. The tardiness in answering it is caused by the delay in sending it by mail.

Accept my sincere thanks for your loyalty, your sympathy and your devotion. They are very comforting to my heart.

Gratefully yours. Mrs. Leland Stanford Washington - Nov 5. 95.
