18 Stearns Road,

Brookline, Mass.

April 3, 1905.

My dear Dr. Jordan:

Before closing let me give voice to the sympathy I feel
for you and the University in the loss of poor Mrs. Stanford.
I know of no death since that of my own parents that has so
affected me. I had the privilege of meeting her personally
in Benares and my memory of the kind and motherly reception
she gave me made me feel her death most keenly. It is good
to see how widely she was honored, and how universally she is
mourned.

Very sincerely yours,

D. Brainerd Spooner.
