Chambers Superior Court V.A. Gregg, Judge San Luis Obispo, Cala., May 19th 1889
Hon Leland Stanford San Francisco Cala
My dear Sir I write to you not knowing to whom else to write. I have a boy turning into his fifteenth year. After he has completed one more year in the Public school I [want?] that he should then enter the "Leland Stanford Junior University" and take his course there. My desire is that he shall if possible start as soon as the school is opened so that he may have the honor of being with the first class. As there will no doubt be [more?] applicants than there will be room I wish to have, Paul M Gregg, booked for entrance and that I may be notified when I can send him Very truly V.A. Gregg

Having been employed over twenty-five years by the late R.B Woodward in putting up his first Museum and afterwards his larger Museums and Zoopraphicon at Woodward's Gardens during which time and by four years travel in this country and Europe I have gained by untiring study and labor not only experience but also a well selected Collection of Natural History of beautiful and durably mounted Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Fishes, Crustaceans, Echinoderms, Insects, Shells, Fossils, large series of Birds skins for exchange, Eggs and Nests, [alcoholic?],

preparations and numerous ethnological specimens. This vast Collection packed in 125cases embraces over 15,000 specimens with their scientific and english names and habitation. They are classified according to the Smithsonian publications and those of the British Museum. A copy of the catalogue of my Collection can be finished within a reasonable time. It is my intention to dispose of the Collection together with a powerful Solar Microscope for ten thousand dollars. If I can render any assistance in putting up a Museum or Zoographicon for your Institution please command my services. Prof. Spencer F. Baird of the Smithsonian or Prof. [O.?]C. Marsh of Yale College will have the kindness to give information of my character.
