"The Hourse in Motion." It's true that the [illegible] of the work is indicated in the Preface, but it is often the case that a Preface is overlooked.

Moreover [illegible] so large a book as this one we think the page would look rather bare with only the single line and the publisher's imprint. We should recommend preserving substantially the present form.

Yours truly, [illegible]

Dr. J.D.B.Stillman

Dear Sir:

In reply to your question relative to a proposed change in the form of title-page, we must say that we should regard such a change as commercially unwise. The form of titlepage which you adopted after consultation with us seems to use better than the simple one which you now suggest. Many persons in looking at a book expect to find in the titlepage some indication of its scope and purpose. This would hardly seem to be conveyed by the simple words.

Heliotype work is correct at $2.90 1/4 per copy making $5805. expect that you have omitted the change for tinting the plates which you ordered done after the original estimate was made. This change is $320.00 make a total of $6125.00 from this deduct the amount you have paid Rice Kendall and Co. for plate paper for plates and it will show you the net amount of the Heliotype [Cos?] bill for the 2000 copies on this amount they have received from you already $800.00

Now I understand you to say that you wish the Heliotype Co to go on with 3000 more copies of the 107 plates. Am I correct?

These 3000 copes will cost you (including the paper which Rice Kendall Co. have sent us on your order ut which is not paid for) as follows

9 chromos @ 4/13 ct| .39 7 helios @ 6ct| 42 4 skeletons 2 3 1/2| 14 87 Ruinletter and [Sithanten?] @ 1 1/2| 1.30 1/2 per copy| 2.25 1/2 or for 3000 copy| 6765.00 add [Tinting?]| 480 7245.00

these 3000 are reckoned day the same rate as our original estimate for the 5000.

We are promised a stamped cover tomorrow and if it comes from the binder I will send it to you. As soon as we can get
