Dear Mother and Daddy,

I got your letter telling me of Bobbie's and Shirley's engagement. I really couldn't get very excited over it at the moment, but now that I have thought it over I can think of a lot of things that Shirley can give Bobbie that some one else might not. Anyway I know that she must have to like Bobbie awfully well to sit home with him all the nights she has for him to study instead of going to some college activity. I can't think of many girls that would. At least they are being a little more sensible about the matter than either Charles or Curtis, and I'm sure that Shirley is much nicer than either of their wives.

I havn't seen Art to speak to, except to say hello since Sunday. It's sort of funny not seeing him because I used to see or at least hear from him every day, but I guess in a little while I won't notice it. I have only seen Jack once since then; he is a little more consciencous than Art and spends a little more time at the library. But I don't mind - I went out so much last quarter that it is about time I let up a little bit. I have been doing typing lessons all evening. I can't hand in a lesson until I do it perfect, and it gets sort of irritating sometimes because I'll get down to the last line of an exercise and then make a mistake. Tonight it took almost an hour to do one little lesson. I could do better if I did stop and look every once in a while but I have got to learn to type without looking. I practiced for almost three hours today. I talked to Dr. Popper today after lunch, and I am going to have my first music lesson

a week from tomorrow. I tried to get him to tell me what my bill was, but he said he didn't keep track of such things, and that I was just supposed to keep track of what I owe him. I really don't think that he cares whether he gets paid or not. Tonight we had one of the faculty for dinner, a Professor Barclay, whom used to be my lower division advisor. He is a very charming and funny old bachelor, and I really think that Mrs. Reynolds has her eye on him. I had to play for him. Mrs. R. is worse thank you about asking me to play for guests.

I am still fixing the hems on my dresses, but it really isn't pending that I get them done because the weather has as yet been most to cold to wear them. Every one was quite crazy about the one that I made. I have worn it quite a few times.

I can't think of anything else to tell you since I wrote you last. But thank you again for the box of candy. It's all gone now in that the box is empty, but all you have to do is look at me to know that it is every bit still with me. I am fully convinced that candy is not a perishable product.

Love to all, Mary -
