Dear Mother and Daddy,

Well, now to tell you everything that happened on the week-end. It was rather full, but I doubt if I will have many more like it. On Friday night I went to a little party here on campus with Bob Roartree. Sally and Jim went of course and we also got a date for a little Chinese medical student with an awfully cute new little Chinese girl. She didn't seem to like him so well though, and that was rather disappointing. Incidentally, I wore my purple suit. The next afternoon we went with them again to the Cal. - College of the Pacific game. We got two more dates for that, one was with Sally Teachout. The game was at Cal. and it took us quite a while to get there. The game was rather exciting, but even I thought it was quite poor playing. After the game we took a little tour of the Cal. campus and made nasty remarks about it, but I really have to admit that it was very pretty, next we took a half hour boat ride on Lake Merrit in a boat that was as slow as a

snail - then we had dinner at the little restaurant by the boat house. By this time I was getting quite frantic since I had a date here for the post-reg dance (after registration) at eight thirty. Bob had asked mt to go, but he hadn't asked me until solate I made him think that I already had a date because I thought he was getting much too assuming and I didn't want to go out with him so much on one week-end, as things are turning out now, I probably won't be going to in the future. Since I really didn't have a date, I thought I'd better see what I could do, but I had only two prospects - one I realized was going to ask me so I ran away - the other one was George, but he asked me for next Friday instead. So I thought that I had better give up about the date, something happened the next morning. Bob MacIntosh's ship was in port so I went with him to the dance. I don't imagine you have ever heard of him, but just ask Margie, she'll tell you. If you'd like to see a picture of him there is one in Margie's and my little wooden Kodak book. He is a very well known boy, and there are literally hundreds of girls who would

give [up their?] teeth to go out with him. You'd make as much an impression going out with him in L.A. as you would a movie star. Unfortunately he is quite nabbed by Joan Sherman, but I really don't think I'd like to cultivate him; he'd be much too much trouble to keep. It's just the impression you create going out with him and having everyone so envious of you. Of course he'd been waiting about ten minutes by the time I got home, but he was awfully nice about it and I had to keep him waiting another twenty minutes while I got ready. Of course when I came upstairs to get ready all my lights were burnt out and so the time I wasn't dressing in the hall, I was dressing in the dark. I finally got to the dance and I made my desired impression on every one. Roantree appeared with someone else, but he eyed Bob MacIntosh and I think he looked a little worried, which was of course exactly what I wanted him to do. george was also very surprised to see me with him (he knows him) and all the girls wanted

to know who he was. I certainly was in my glory. I doubt if I go out with him anymore since his ship sails again this week, but I certainly don't care, all I wanted was to be seen with the famous boy and have the reputation of having gone out with him. I really had an awfully nice time and I think that he did too. I wore my green wool dress. Nothing much happened today, as far as my date life is concerned. I saw Roartree but I didn't get to speak to him since I was talking to two soldiers at the time - but at least I don't think he is going to take me for granted anymore. This afternoon, Frank Dazey came by to see me - he is now in the Merchant Marine school at Vallejo. This is the end of my week-end diary - next I'll write all about my school work.

I would like to have my fountain pen, and if it's not too much trouble I'd like my watch fixed. Don't, please, forget about the extension for my lamp if you can possibly find one. I have received my glasses, my little rug, and comforter, but not the green rug or chair.

I'll write a long letter next about the other more important side of college life.

Love to all, Mary
