[written] was the jolliest day of all. Theodora and I took the 8.30 train for S.F. We went first & got my cape which is repaired beautifully for $2.50 & looks as good as new - no new fur but old repaired. Then I went to Miss Ostrander's. The waist was not done, but barely even in embryo state. It is to to be finished Wednesday. Theodora talked with Fred who gives us a feeling of security, he advises us to consult either Judge Wynch or Judge Rhodes & is going to consult with Mr. Garbey himself & investing all accounts with Theodora Thursday Then Theodora and I had chicken paltee at the Woman's Exchange. Then we did an errand & two & by way of "spontaneous variation" bought gallery tickets for 35[cents] for "Trilby". I never enjoyed anything more in my life. The play was strong & well acted. It was most as much fun as discovering the Maitland house, to go up and up the gallery stairs not [illegible] whether we would get [illegible] a smoking, quinchewing mob or not but we found our selves in the midst of fashionable respectability & had such a good time. We left just before the last act to see Louise, but we missed the 5.31 train so [illegible] the 6.30. Alice [illegible] &

[page turned] See Prof. Hearts again about the photos. I [illegible] Miss Mc K[illegible] in fair [illegible] & she sent her love to you & said she had heard from you. Gertrude wishes to hear from you too. She prizes her dear little tray you gave her so much. She is very well & so is every body. Give warmest love to Aunt Tad & keep a big hug for yourself. I dont have time to discuss lectures with you much.

Your Toodles.

Your letter was to good. Sent Aunt Tad an heiress!

Guy Cochran were on it & we had a jolly time coming home. At Palo Alto we found out a carriage as every thing was at the university. There had been a great celebration on account of the decision for the suit - processions, horses brigades, Dr. & Mrs. Jordon had been [illegible] at the 5.30 train by the student body & pulled up to the university - the girls carry Chinese lanterns, & the [illegible] blowing hours [illegible] & [illegible]. There was speech making & bon fires & Dr. Jordon ended with saying that the "doors of Stanford University would never close." - - - Ra ra ra Stanford. To-day every one was resting - last night the boys at 12. oclock painted the station red. A new station is being built on the university side of the track, it is not of stone but frame & on the left hand side going to Palo Alto from the university. Mrs. Hazelton was here Tuesday & was very anxious about you as she had not heard since you had reached California - I gave her your postals & the paper telling of Uncle Lewison's death. Oh Theodora & I are ever so obliged for the White syllabi - they are especially helpful to her in her thesis. I have not come unwell have taken pepper-corns & pulsetilla. I am told that many of the girl upon first arriving here go monthly [illegible] to the change in chin ate & food. I feel very well. To-morrow I shall

[written] My dear Nannie -

I have just two sheets of paper left so will take an exercise in condensing. One of your postals, the [illegible] Platte, one did not reach us till to-night as it was taken from the box by one of the girls who misplaced it another that your letter refered to has not come to us yet. How crowded with human experience your [illegible] was. I am so glad you arrived safe & sound & found poor Aunt Tad [illegible] to keep her mind occupied. Theodora and I have had a happy week, [illegible] out of the ordinary [illegible] till Friday evening when four girls - Edith Thaiglet, Kitty Haskell, Marylyn Maine & D - and Herbert Thaight A Mr Bell, & Young. & McNeel & Strokere went out bicycle riding by a harvest moon. It was the most beautiful thing I ever did. It was as bright as day and we rode clear to Redwood City and back - fifteen miles! Before we got home I could mount &

dismount with ease to say nothing of colliding with equal felicity with my partner Mr. McNiel. We had an awfully jolly time.

Saturday Laura & Grace Clark came down in the morning to study but we went to the Sophomore & Freshman football game & had another good time. In the afternoon Bessie Blossom, [illegible] Macintosh & I went over to the Nurseries. but Mr. Wight has gone to New York to study law, so it wasn't any fun. to look at the mummies & jugs. In the evening quite against my will, I went to the Fresh. - Sophomore receptions & had only a "fair to middlin" time. It was some fun to [illegible] the little Freshmen but that was all. Their badges were a minature bag of salt & the sophs. were a little red [illegible]-board. I, as an Xmas Junior needed no badge! This morning Edith Straight, Kit Haskell & Alice Hayes & I went to Palo Alto to church & stayed to communion. Miss

[written] the photographer to whom he sent our plates & he said he was going to see the man Saturday & would let me know Monday about them. Miss [illegible] inquired about you & Miss Jones is the chaperone at the Sigma Nu house, one of the boys fraternities! Don't you think the place suits her? But the worst of it is she wants me to call on her which is appalling. I have misplaced my pen so
