Oct. 25th, 1918.

The meeting began at 7:00 P.M. Chairman appointed Mr. Wong social committee. Three things or plans were proclaimed - the first one was suggested by Mr. Chi that a paper should be published with the purpose of propagating the Chinese political news and knowledge to all the Chinese students in all the parts of the U.S.; the second one by Mr. Wong that a simple Chinese paper should be published with the purpose of propagating the knowledge of the present situation of China to our country people in San Francisco; and the third one by Mr. Chang that someone of our own club may be sent out to S.F. to speak to the people there.

A committee of five - H. Chi, S.K. Wong, C.C. Liu, P.S. Kwang, C.K. Chen, was appointed to investigate the first plan. The second one was compromised by Mr. Wong, and the third one was decided to be carried out.

Mr. Mei gave a motion that the constitution of the club be printed or typewritten and that thing be devolved on the treasurer, and the expense should not be over one dollar.

Director of Residences and Conferences Room 221, Encina Hall Stanford University Stanford, California

Attention: Mrs. Lois Butts

Gentlemen:

This letter will confirm Mr. Tseng's telephone conversation with Mrs. Butts regarding use of the Stanford Campus facilities for the Phi Lamda Fraternity U.S. 1967 National Conference on June 30, July 1 and 2, 1967 which will require room and meals for approximately 200 people.

The PLUS fraternity has been in operation since 1919 and consists of Chinese students from various universities and colleges around the world. Its members are interested in China and some day plan to return there to help their people resolve some of their problems in the areas of government, economics and education. We feel that this interest in China on the part of educated Chinese here in the United States should be encouraged and ultimately might be helpful in solving ideological differences between people everywhere.

For the last 40 years, the headquarters of PLUS and their national conferences have been located on the east coast in New York, Boston and Washington D.C. This year, Mr. Alex Tseng of SLAC has been nominated as national Chairman and therefore it seemed logical that the 1967 conference should be here on the west coast. The Stanford Campus would be an ideal setting because of its location and the facilities available. The East Asian Department of Hoover Institute and the Chinese Club of Stanford University have agreed to be co-sponsors for the conference.

We have verbally informed our twelve sub-chapter chairmen, including those from Hawaii, Taiwan and Hong Kong, that the conference will be held June 30, July 1 and 2, 1967. However, we cannot confirm this date until we receive your approval for use of the Campus facilities.

Your earliest reply will be appreciated.

Sincerely yours, John T. Ma Curator- Librarian East Asian Collection

Dec. 6. 1918

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Chang at 7:00. Mr. Chi was called to report that our proposed work of publishment be postponed on account of the financial difficulty and lack of time. This was followed by the announcement made by Chairman that next quarter all the first year men be requested to stay in the Encina Hall. The treasurer reported that $4.50 was left. Mr. Chi made the motion that that sum be used up to provide a tea party at the end of this quarter. It was seconded and passed. The meeting was closed with another announcement by Chairman that the first meeting of next quarter would be held on Jan 2nd evening for electing new officers of the club.

Respectfully Hwang Pu
