Dr. Donald B. Tresidder President, Stanford University Stanford University, California
Dear Sir, I was very happy to receive your letter of March, though I am afraid I haven't much to offer you. I am glad to see that Stanford is earnestly looking forward, particularly into the field of veterans' education.
I myself went through the ill-planned ASTP at Oregon State College after attending STAR [unit?] at Stanford. I was trained in Spanish and European affairs; so now I am in the Pacific in utterly unrelated work.
However, though the ASTP was, in the

end, largely a fiasco, I think that colleges in general could profit greatly in following one aspect of the foreign area and language program as taught in ASTP.
That is in the close integration of the study of language, economic and political geography, history, art and culture. I found that close liaison very interesting and revealing and wished I had had similar courses while an undergraduate.
I do not intend to return to Stanford or any other school. I feel that I have as much schooling as I need and can afford.
Sincerely, Alan J. Blair 39152253 S/SGT, SIG C
