Dear Sir

As I have not heard from you now for a long time, I can give you no directions relative to my Affairs, but leave you to act as you see best. I have no doubt, but Governor Macquarie will render you every assistance you may want on my account till I arrive, should you be in need of any thing that  we can do, we are now preparing to return - The Ship is at Deptford in which we take our Passage. I think we shall not be long after the Governor -  It may be two months before we sail as there are always delays longer than is expected. Mrs Marsden and the Children are well - Another Clergyman  comes out with me and his family. I am looking out for two more if I could only meet with such men as I want, but they are difficult to find - I hope  things in the Colony will now be put on a different footing from what they formerly were - many Arrangements are and will be made for the general welfare - I fully expected a great Change would be made when we first left you, which has taken place -  I was not ignorant of the danger you were in, well knowing the Disposition of certain individuals amongst you. God will bring good out of evil -

[Letter carried on from Page 161]

I have no cause to repent coming to England, as by this means I have got those points settled which I could not have got done had I remained - we shall have a Prospect of more peaceful times - I have offered to bring your Sister out, but have not heard whether she will accept my offer or not. Mrs Marsden wrote to her before, and a few days ago I spoke to the Revd. G. Burder on the Subject and he told me he would write again, but I have not seen him since. I have sent nothing out by these vessels - as we are so near coming excepting a Pipe of Wine which the Governor was to take in for me at Madiera - this he perhaps will lodge in the Store till I come - I have be very anxious for the arrival of Captn  Brookes of the Rose, but she is not come yet, and no private letters have been forwarded by her as yet to England. The public dispatches arrived more than three weeks ago from the Crope. Had  Brookes arrived I should have known what to have written, but as it is, I do not.

I think the Regiment coming out will do the Colony good, and it will promote the Prosperity of the Colony. I hope we shall not have so

much nonsense and mischief as formerly - Times are very hard in England - all who have returned want to be back again - I wish you may have sent me Home any remittances by the Rose as I have spend much money since I came here. Mrs Marsden in Hull I [indecipherable ] for her we have had the addition of one little girl to our family since we came. I hope Mr and Mrs Crook is well - and Mrs Hassall and family -  you will hear the Changes that are to be made, and therefore I shall not state them. I wish some individuals had been more cautious, and kept out of  a Scrap. I fear they [indecipherable] nothing , but [indecipherable] for and Trouble -

I am

Yours truly

Serampore, Aug 4th 1809

Very Dear Brother,

We are just informed that the Cyclops Captn Nichols, is going to New Holland and the South Seas. We glady avail ourselves of the opportunity by sending you some account of the State of the Redeemer's Kingdom in this part of the world. It seems a long time since we had the pleasure of hearing from you. Be assured your communications will be highly interesting to us. Nothing is so gratifying, or beneficial to us, as information from distant parts of the world respecting that Kingdom which shall put an end to all the miseries that mankind is the subject of.

Several have lately been added to the Church with which we are connected, at Calcutta. The preaching of the word continues to be pretty well attended, and we hope it is the power of God unto Salvation to many. Our oldest native brother whose name is Drishna is settled in this city - He is very active to the cause of our Lord, and meets with much encoragment. Persons frequently send for him to read and explain the word to their families - We have lately had a number of enquiries. Some of these are often found to be wanderers, or persons who have quarelled with their friends. These, after staying a day or two, generally go away but some of this discription have been affected with the word, and have embraced the Gospel. We have lately baptized a Mussulman of the name of Dureem, on a profession of his faith in Christ. Some of those who have joined the Church of Calcutta are from the Armenian and Roman Catholic
