sheep greatly surprised me. I was prepared
to see large and heavy fleeced animals
but did not expect them to be so large
and so handsome as they are, and far
less did I expect to see such magnificent
fleeces. Of course they consisted of
some 30 to 36 of the choice sheep of the
flock. They were all in splendid condition
ready to jump over the high partitions of
the enclosures, magnificent in size & shape
nearly as even all over as the "noblest"
German merinos, and of excellent
quality as to fineness and character.
In short they are almost the bear ideal
of sheep for Australia, and I must look
after them. Unfortunately none are
disposable until February when they
offer their sale sheep until all of them are
sold. The question is how far the sale
sheep correspond with those exhibited. Of
