called upon me just as I was packing
for my trip hither. They were quite unable
to find lodgings so crowded was
London. This was purely on acct. of the
Peace rejoicings. I went into the
Green Park with Francis Bigge and
his elder brother the parson to see
the fire works. I thought we should
have been fairly crushed on our way
home by the inconceivably dense
masses moving along all the chief
thoroughfares. The human torrent fairly
choked up the streets in their entire breadth
and although moving in one direction
was apalling from its density and from
ones utter inability to exercise the least
