My dear Bessie

I know you hear of me as I do of
you through my dear sister Libby –
but nevertheless I often regret that my
state of health for some long time
has obliged me to curtail my
correspondance [correspondence] – for I do enjoy an
exchange of letters, and as I really
am attached to you and your dear
ones round you – I feel sorry that
so long an interval has passed
now however the immediate incentive
to my letter is a sad subject –
I was very much shocked and
distressed to hear of the sudden
death of William Bowman having
such a large family to mourn the
loss of a good father & excellent man
I am sure it has touched you all
very deeply – and so I cannot
