Miles has used what I think is typists' shorthand in a couple of the diary entries above. Can anyone decipher it?

Barbie, and everyone, I went to the State Library today and looked at the Dorothy Hayes transcriptions of Miles' diaries. She has transcribed, including 'translating' the shorthand, for all of Miles' diaries 1926 - 1936. This is typed up on foolscap pages.

I'm a bit unsure about how to continue transcribing, as a lot of these diary entries are in shorthand. So far, I've been noting it as [shorthand] and putting in recognisable words where they occur. Plus Dorothy Hayes has already done a pretty good transcript.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

When I looked at the Hayes transcriptions a couple of months ago, I noticed that at least in a few cases, she had mis transcribed some of the proper names which are written in full by Miles within the shorthand diary entries. So I think it is worth doing those again.

Thanks for doing that Frances! I think there are some words in the mix of shorthand are worth transcribing anyway.

(For what it's worth, from reading the Hayes transcription, I think Miles was trying to practice her shorthand for use in the office, not because she was trying to hide anything.)
