The stranger Blacks ^ surrounded the
water hole [word crossed out] threw their spears &
other weapons at them till they sank in
the water. This caused a great excitement
among the different tribes. The upper Mac-
quarie tribe or the Wellington tribe proper
were allies at the time of this Mudgee tribe,
and expected that the L. Macquarie tribe
would have revenge. They came across here
to Mudgee & for weeks & months were
encamped in this Neighbourhood [word crossed out] affearing
of being suddenly attacked by their enemies
Several times they encamped at night just
below my garden & being in great fear once they
came one evening to me begging of me to
leave my kitchen door's back door of the
house open that they might take refuge
on my premises should the enemy suddenly surprise
them at night. The enemy however never
came, excursions were made for many years
by each tribe but nothing was done And
