God. but I'll have this bible with you, it wont be
of [underlined] any use taking [end underlined] it to such a place as I'm going to!!
told her not to presume to ask a blessing upon
anything she did in such a place, it would be
mocking -

Sabbath 28th
Rev'd W. Mills preached 11oclk.
Mr Ayton 7 oclk.

Number of inmates 35 all in tolerably good
health, which we tell them "is better than sick"

Monday 29th
We have nearly all the inmates
engaged with the "extra" from steamer
as we "must have it ready by Wednesday."

Tuesday 30th
Eliza Ellis is to go up the country (40 miles)
as general servant 6/ pr week - it is such
a relief to me - for she was constantly
grumbling about the "hardship of staying in
this place so long."

Wednesday 31st
Wrote to Mr. Hill requesting him to send for the
extra washing - to which attention was promptly
given, and a dray sent at 3 oclk to take it away-
The Matron having seen it off, took a bus and went
to the office, was told that the purser was on board
but as the linen was still on shore, it would be
useless to go to him, as he would not sign until
it was counted on board - so had reluctantly to
return, without it.
