June 13th
A woman called to ask admission
for her daughter (14 yrs old, told her
it was a pity to put such a child in here, she
said, I dont know what else to do, for she wont
stay in service, and walks the streets of a night
with soliders." I sent her to Mrs J. Smith
and she brought a note from Mrs. S permitting her to
stay until tuesday. She is a poor neglected girl
more sinned against, than sinning says she
ran away from ^ [sup] home [end sup] because her mother was in prison
What was she put in prison for? "some one told lies
on her, and she got five years" - but she was let
off in two years." What can be expected from
the training of such a mother.

Friday 14th

and caught Eliza Lane using bad
language, when I stood before her, she hid
her face with her hands.
