Dear Bob,

I have just recieved yours
written the 27" - long time - and have
only one half hour to answer before the male
closes -

I would gladly be with you tonight for
I feel a deep interest in the success of
this enterprise but I cannot possibly come
on so short a notice - have many patients to
see today -

You say, "Money can be obtained
in abundance" - this is cheering news for without
funds the thing cant go on - but there is something
else wanting - an intelligent understanding of
what the objects of the Society are - and how
it should be worked, and what benefitts
may be expected to flow from the association of
men of education, deeply interested in ^{the promotion of} Science -

Did the citizens of Chicago but appreciate
the truth; that to t^{he labors of} Societies of the kind contemplated
