Monday Evening.
Dear Brother.
It f[strikethrough] is pretty late Bob but I wanted to talk to you - I wish you were here - I do. Annie is out spending the Holidays - she, Aunt Deal and Em have been over here this evening - since they went home I have been reading - reading in one of my new books that Frank gave me for Christmas present - Y. B. Aldrick's poems - What do you think of this?
"And the quaint little snakes grass Lift their silver heads to the moon." And this -
"As sad and sweet So parting kisses be".
Frank gave me Mrs Hemans poems [illegible].
Father expects to start tomorrow

morning. I fear for his eyes -
Delia went back to[strikethrough] home with Frank this morning - I was sorry to have her go so soon; but we have enjoyed her visit very much, what little Charlie let us see of her -
Mr Chase hasnt got back yet and I want to see him so bad. he has been gone two weeks; we miss him very much.
We enjoyed ourselves very much Christmas - did'nt get home till most three o'clock sunday morning. Henry Updyke was there. We danced played &c. Mother and Aunt Nettie beat Uncle Hiram and Mr Morgan playing uchre, vexed Uncle Hiram as you may suppose Mother said that it vexed him so that he even scolded Mr Morgan.
Mr Clark is making sweet music with the guitar over in

the corner of the room - it makes me feel happy. O. Mother has just come in to send us all to bed - No --- He has been singing many pretty things to night. "Mary of Argyle". I wish he were more agreeable himself for he sings pretty well. - But then[strikethrough] so it is. each one of us have have some peculiar gifts - no one can be perfect -
Alice says it is often ten o'clock and that I must go to bed - Good night= I would[underlined] let you kiss me to night Bob if I could[underlined].
