The Grove Dec 30th 1858
Dear Bob.
The weather is and has been exceedingly disagreeable; rainy or misty and damp all the time and never a gleam of sunshine allday; just a few minutes since Sol did show his face for a few seconds, and you can't think how that one bright streak, did enliven us all.
I have been sewing very steadily for the last few days
Cousin Annie is still here she will probably return to Chicago soon. We enjoy having her here very much. I like Annie much better than I used too. rubbing against the world had improved her vastly; and for

a wonder teaching does not spoil her.
I have a beautiful little bouquet before me on the table that Frank gave me Christmas, some of the flowers are as fragrant as summer ones.
We had letters from Mr Chase to dy, he will be home Newyears, I do not know how long he will stay this time.
We are all glad that Father has gone to Washington; I think if his eyes are only well he will enjoy himself well.
I have been reading lots of things; and have plenty of things that I want to read.
I will write to Father in this letter.
Do you intend to make Newyears calls? -
