Monday Evening -

My Dear Robert -

"Why did you not tell
me this morning - that I had forgotten
to give you the Hyacinths? You had
scarcely left the house - before I thought
of it - I felt very sorry - as well as a
good deal mortified - fearing - you might
think - I did not wish to recollect
it. Mr Pease came home this evening
with a large basket full of most
splendid roses - a present from Mrs Elliott -
Carrie - & I [illegible] exclaimed as soon as ere
I saw them - that it was too bad.

"Bob"[underlined] was not here to enjoy them -
I suppose you are now at your
Uncles, &is having a pleasant visit with
your friends - I trust - It is. [illegible]

Although undated, this letter was possibly written Monday, October 18, 1858. Robert Kennicott stopped in Cleveland, OH for three days to visit the Pease family (and his mentor, Jared Potter Kirtland) on his way to Washington, DC. From Cleveland, his next stop was in Buffalo, NY to visit his maternal uncle, Amasa Ransom [per letter to his mother Mary Kennicott, October 18, 1858, RK-593]
