Suffolk Feby 17th 1774 Messrs. Johnston & Benehan Bought of James Gibson & Coy 1 hhd Rum 1/2 Gallons 2/8 14 [illegible] 3 barrels Muscovado Sugar viz [table] 3 loaves sugar [illegible] 5 Bushells Corn for Waggener [illegible] 1 quart Rum [Ditto] [illegible] [table] Dear Sirs The Bearer will deliver you as above which hope will please & get safe to hand, as we have no [illegible] at present, we have sent more sugar than you ordered, but as it is very good & cheaper hope you will approve of it the hhd Rum contains 113 [1/2] Gallons the ullage is exactly [1/2] Gallons - Your Tobo [illegible] and not be inspected time enough to send you an account of it by the bearer who is very impatient, you shall have a note of them by next waggens We are Sir yr mo ob Serv James Gibson [illegible]

Petersburg 19 Feb 1774 Sirs I attended at the inspecting your two hhds. Tobo. one pass cleanly the others had a good acct of bad Tobo. in it however I told them it was too good to refuse and that I would give up 6. in the [weight] so it went No [?] Sold here but have made some Hemp [?] [?] & send you 40 bushells A - S is still more disposed to dispute payt. of the Cattle, they die dayly now - The B Bk [pickers] [?] [?] quite [?] He refused Tobo and there is but little now to do. Excuse haste & believe me sincerely sir Your Serv David Ross
