conduct & character; & set a better example to my family.
Between these two last children I had a daughter still
born. making 6 children.

My 7th was a son born 14th June 1851 named Haynes McCall
after my father. he is now 17 or 18. good looking & very much
liked by every body; he looks like Frank who died; he goes
to the University here & stands well in his classes
he is of a practical turn of mind. I expect he will
study medicine.

My 8th is a son born March 1st 1854. Named
Robert Hayne after my Uncle. Gov Hayne; he is 15, &
tall for his age; very smart, his teacher says one of the
smartest boys in school; he goes to the preparatory
school here; he is very industrious as soon as he comes
from school, he works in the garden, cuts wood or
any other kind of work, he is like Willie unsocial
in his disposition, & associates with very few. I am
afraid this disposition will prevent his distinguish-
ing himself in the future; he is too retired; & so his
smartness may not avail him much. he has taken
2 prizes for eloquence at school; stand high in all
his classes, he is very fond of reading, & has read
many improving books; he is good looking like the rest

My 9th child is a son born June 13th 1856, was first
named Arthur Hayne after my Uncle, but when his
brother Frank died, I changed his name to Benjamin
Franklin after his father, for out of the 4 sons left I wished
one named that loved honored name. He is about 12
years old, very good looking, & smart, perhaps not yet
as promising in mind as the others, but will improve.
he is not fond of study like Hayne, & does not behave
