19, We went to C.Taylor's, J.Taylor & family, John Pendleton, T.Barbour & familys, H.Pendleton & sister, Bowie Pendleton, Reu Taylor, Miss Throckmorton & Miss P.Moore were there- A Mr. Berry was here in the morning, said he would send some whiskey from Augusta, I told him I would take 18 Galons at 2/6. George went to look for my father's horse.
20, G.C.Taylor came from Maj'r Moore's to-day. We went to J.Taylor's there was a good many of the neighbors there also Col.E.Pendleton & family, Mr Balmain & wife- Ch Taylor was taken very ill in evening. George bro't my father's horse home-
21, [Sunday] C.Taylor got a little better in the night. Mr.Balmain preached at Brick Church, there was not many people there. G.Taylor did not go- I came by home & we all went to J.Taylor's to dinner- Jon'a Taylor came back with us. Negro Will ret'd to J.Pendleton's-
22, Continues very dry weather. Went to Court w'th G.Taylor, Jon'a & G.C.Taylor, P.Merry pd £7.2.0 in part of his Bond. Let Jno.Stevens have Int.War'ts £3.8.11 for £3.2.0 at 10 pr Cr. LeJos Duncomb 8, £3.13.1 1/2 for Cash £3.5.10 at do. Do. Rich'd Waugh £4.14.9 for £4.10.0 5 pr Cr. Do. Caleb Lindsay £2.11.2. for £2.8.6 do. Sheriff gave me Cr 3/2 1/2 [Total £14.11.2. Jon'a Taylor came home with G.Taylor & me & dined- G.C.T. at night.
23, Mr.Goodlett at Mr.Morton's who is said to be sick. Colby went to Col.Taliaferro from school- Jas Taylor & family, C.Taylor & do, J.Pendleton & do, T.Barbour & do, Miss C.Pendleton, H. & B.Pendleton, Jona Taylor & daughter dined here- A very slight shower of rain. G.Taylor went to Mr.Shepherd's & paid him for a bond W.Ingram owed £10.10.6.
24, I walked with Jon'a Taylor to Mrs Thomas's & staid there 2 or 3 hours and returned to J.Taylor's to dinner. Maj'r Hite was there. I paid him for 25 1/2 Gal's oil and cask which he sent G.Taylor last winter, the oil 4/- pr Gallon & cask 4/6=£5.6.6. G.Taylor, Wm Daniels' wife, John, H.& Bowie Pendleton, T.Barbour & Miss C.Pendleton were there. G.C.T. went to Rob't Taylors & Polly Taylor to C.Taylor's to dinner. Cool day & a little rain-
25, Went to a Course race for a saddle at Adams's Mill. Jos Morton's horse won, 6 horses ran. I paid Herndon for 3 planks 1/10 1/2. A good many people at the race Jas Burnley came here from race.
26, Hubbard & Reuben Taylor were here & got some Broken window glass- Jona Taylor went to Chs Taylor's to breakfast, ret'd by J.Taylor's, then with G.Taylor & myself walked to Maj'r Lee's and dined there. *Capt Gillison & family, Maj'r Madison & do. Mr.T.Bell & wife, J.Taylor & C.Taylor dined there, also Mrs Clayton. [*Capt John Gillison, Captain 10th Va., Nov.18, 1776; transferred to 6th Va., Sept.14, 1778; prisoner at Charleston May 12, 1780; retired Jan.1, 1783; must have been a close friend of the family as Commodore Taylor's son Thompson named his son "John Gillison," and the latter was the father of Dr.Thompson L.Taylor, Dentist, of Richmond and Frankfort, Ky.-PFT]
27, J.Taylor came to breakfast. Jon'a Taylor's daughter came from J.Taylor's, they set out to return to Botetourt. G.Taylor & myself went to Mr.T.Bell's with them In evening they went to Maj'r Madison's. Maj'r Lee & family, Capt Gillison & do. Mr Clayton & wife & C.Taylor dined at Mr.Bell's. G.C.Taylor went to Court house- Richard & Colby went to Hub'd Taylor's. *Reuben & Edmund came home with them at night- [This Reuben and this Edmund, must have been brothers of Hubbard Taylor, sons of Col.James and Ann (Hubbard) Taylor of Caroline-Reuben Taylor married Mary Thornton- they were parents of Frances T.Taylor who married my father's eldest sister, Sarah Frances Taylor- This Edmund Taylor married Mary Todd Hinde, and were parents of my father's third wife, Martha Southgate Taylor. --PFT]
