DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1790
1790,
January,
16, Cloudy all day and some rain. J.Pendleton came here & went to buy some hogs of H'd Taylor who went with him & says he intends down to-morrow- G.Taylor went after dinner to C.Taylors- Grogs cryed, do several days past.
---most of the last night, cloudy all day and ----arm. Valleys were wet. ---------th my father who walked to ----------- Rob't Taylor, J.Taylor, C.Taylor---------ed here, Capt Burnley brought ------ Mrs Burnley had made, I send 9/- by ----- paying for making 2 Jackets and -------- Drawers [Leaf destroyed here]
19, Cloudy weather, continues, some rain. Cleared before noon. Planted some Strawberry vines in the garden. Planted in the yard about Bee house & South gate some small peach trees got under a latter tree in Capt Burnley's field.
20, A little frost this morning, cooler than late. Planted white Asparagus roots. G.Taylor rode to Reu Taylor's & dined there. I walked to Maj'r Lees, ret'd the books I borrowed, went to the store- came by uncle Taylor's, Aunt Thomas very unwell- Called at J.Taylor's and dined. C.Taylor's wife and Miss M.Conway there- Saw Mr.Barbour's second son.
21, Cool and clear but not hard weather.---- C.Taylor came to see Milly's sec----- dined here. I was taken with---- the evening and was unwell all -----
22, Continue unwell tho' something----- Sent Wheat & got Flour from Dade's m--- Ball at Wood's to night- I did not go-- [leaf destroyed here]
23, I carried some Linen to Capt Burnley's but He & Mrs Burnley gone to Col.Burnley I then went with G.Taylor to J.Taylor's, they ere (the men) gone to the Court house- we went to Uncle Taylor's and dined. Aunt Thomas & J.Pendleton's wife were there. Mrs Pendleton agreed to make me two shirts-
24, Rained before day, some spits of snow with it in the day but did not rain much T.Barbour was here in evening -- [SUNDAY]--
25, Fine day above, wet ground, warm. Wen twith G.Taylor to Court. Gave Mr.Smith letters to Kentucky, came home and dined about sunset, a little after Richard & Colby got up from Caroline.
----ichard & Colby went to school, it being the first day -----dlet began to teach, but he was there last -------Capt Conway, J.Taylor, C.Taylor and -----------dleton dined here. Rained a little. ------------ned & warm in the night till a little before ----------------ay when it snowed very fast till 10 o'clock -----about 3 inches deep. Went with my father & nephews to C.Taylor's, Capt. Conway & family, J.Taylor & J.Pendleton dined there. Gibson there, cleared at night. Baldwin returned.
28, A frosty fog, cleared about 10 o'clock & much of the snow melted. Uncle Taylor, Aunt Thomas, J.Pendleton & family & J.Taylor jr dined here. Sent the boys to School but nobody there- Paid E.Pendleton for making A Shirt 3/-
29, Tolerable weather, cool south wind. Sent to School which broke up early- the boys says Mr.Goodlet was there yesterday after they came away.
30, Went with my father & nephes to J.Taylor's Aunt Thomas, C.Taylor, J.Pendleton & family, T.Barbour's family were there- T.Barbour came at night. I paid M[ary] Barbour 3/- for making a shirt. J.Pendleton & family intend home to-morrow. Mild weather & clear.
31, Cloudy morning, soon cleared with South----- [Leaf destroyed here]
