11[175] DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1791, 1791, June, 22, C.Taylor came over to breakfast, his family are at Capt Conway's- he dined here. Going on with harvest- Let C.Taylor have half Ream Wrap'g paper- 23, Cloudy in last night and a light mist- C.Taylor lodged here. Sam' Porter came about midnight & C.Taylor went home & let him have medecine for his wife & returned- I barked the trees in Potatoe patch- Put Beer in Vinegar Cask & had it put in Kitchen loft. 24, Cloudy morning with light mist, and a very light shower in evening. 25, Dry weather continues- Reuben Taylor came here before noon and Ch's Taylor afterwards, they dined here and the latter staid with us, his family being at Capt Conway's- Capt Burnley & Mr.Snodgrass came here in the evening, the Capt was sober and would not drink grog- G.C.Taylor, Dicky & Colby went to the river & bathed. 26, C.Taylor went home after breakfast, his family came home to dinner- A Delightful rain began about 10 o'clock and continued near two hours off & on. G.C.T went to Maj'r Moore's to dinner. Till this day the year has been uncommonly dry- G.Taylor & I bought 2 doz chickens, 1 doz each, at 3/- [SUNDAY] 27, Went to Court- But a few persons were there- Very cool- a few drops rain fell- I had my Mare Shod & pd H.Day 2/- pd Peter, the groom of Maj'r Moore's horse 1/- for B.Taylor's and 1/- for my mares going to horse- My father & G.C.Taylor dined at Uncle Taylor's- I came home by night- 28, I had violent ague followed by high fever in last night and am very unwell to day, took 25 Grains Ipecachuanna &c- My father went to Uncle Taylor's & Court house, but ret'd to dinner. 29, I continue unwell tho something better than yesterday- Uncle Taylor came here paid me 1 1/2 Guineas 42/- and dined here- A very good rain fell- 30, G.C.T. complains of a Lax- I am better in health to day- Rained a little in morning & a little in the evening- Growing weather. Planted some Cabbages last night & some this morning. July, 1, Had some Irish Potatoes planted in the pen next the gate. A moderate shower of rain fell to day- Some Cherrys yet. Cutting Timothy. 2, Very cool for the season- I walked with Dicky & Colby to the Mountain. They cut Poppau Sticks- finished cutting timothy. 3, [SUNDAY] Weather continues cool. Heard that John Taylor & family came yesterday to his father's. G.C.Taylor went there- J.Taylor came here in the evening- 4, Morning cool and clear, J.Taylor jr of Caroline[later Gen.James Taylor of Newport, Ky] got here on his way to the Sweet Springs. I received by him a letter from Ben Taylor inclosing my certificates, he drew the interest on them & made use of them. 5, John Taylor came here to Breakfast- after Breakfast I walked with him by his father's to Rob't Taylor's- Uncle Taylor & family, John Taylor & family, dined at Rob't Taylor's. J.Taylor jr of C. went to C.Taylor's and got a tooth drawn. He, my father & G.C.Taylor dined at J.Taylor's- A good rain fell in the evening & night.
6, Uncle Taylor, John Taylor, Rob't Taylor, John Moore, H.Pendleton, Jas Taylor jr (of Caroline), James Taylor & son, dined here- C.Taylor & Reuben Taylor here in evening, Reu Taylor's son, Frank, continues very unwell- J.Taylor jr of Caroline G.C.Taylor, J.Taylor jr & Henry Pendleton went to Court house and to Rob't Taylor's at night. 7, We went to Uncle Taylor's, John Taylor, Rob't Taylor and their families, J.Taylor jr of Carolien, Bro'r James & wife & J.Taylor jr, J's Bell & H.Pendleton dined there & Jas Barbour jr, J.Taylor jr of Caroline, went after dinner to Mr.Shepherd's. Alex'r Shepherd is to set out with him tomorrow for the Sweet Springs. The weather till to day has been very cool for the season for four or five days past. 8, Cutting Oats- My father & I went to C.Taylor's, he was gone from home & did not return before we came home- G.C.T dined at home & then went to Reu Taylor's whose child continues very ill. G.Taylor had about 300 lb Tob'o prized in C.Taylor's Hnd. Very warm day & evening.
