2, Monday, Cloudy warm Morning. Thunder in evening and a sprinkle of rain at night.
Thos Crutchfield came by,and G.C. Taylor set out before breakfast with him,
going down to Spots' a & Caroline- T. Barbour intended going but his son Wm's
being ill prevented him. M. Atkins took out 3½ Bushels Red Wheat to sow in Barn
field- I desired him to sow thicker than he did in the Middle field. Took out
32d Hhd Corn, had about a bar'l Shelled.
3, Cloudy and warm morning-some drops rain,before noon. 4 Bus' Wheat taken to sow.
Had 22 Ganders, 12 Geese- er old Picked- got about 6 lb feathers- Pat helped to pick-
There are 5 Goslings.
4, Cloudy-a good moderate rain in evening. I delivered p/r Roger Bell a Barrel Corn for
George Con[way] Taylor- R. Bell got a Shoulder 13 lb Bacon for do Which he left here.
Sowed 4 Bus Wheat. Reuben Taylorhad been to Goldesbys Store came by & borrowed a
gourd drop-shot. Frank rode ny mare to Shepherd's & got her shod- bro't some
Newspapers.
5, Thursday, Cloudy & fine rain or small through the day in showers- rained a good deal
after dark. Too wet to plow or sow wheat. Had part of Hemp pulled up-and more the 6th
and laid on clover- Left some seed hemp.
6, Cloudy & light showers thro' the day. I staid at hone. C. Taylor jr came over- he dined
with me- He & 2 Negro boys carried each a Watermelon, returned in evening and carried
3 more- I never had Watermelons so plenty & good, as this season. Negroes about Hemp-
& making Shelter pen &c.
7, Rained last night & showers to day- clouds higher a a little sunhine afternoon- ground
very wet. I have been very unwell for many weeks- rested poorly last night- took this
morning 18 Grains Ipecac' and 30 grains Jallap- did not work very well. thought it relieved
me a little- My negroes puting up rails for Fodder Shelter. In evening rothers James &
Reuben rode here, they eat a good watermelon. Brother James mentioned Mr. Reynolds
Chapman (who is recommended as fit to act as a Deputy Clerk) was at his house to day,
went away & said shou'd return before Court.
8, Sunday, Cloudy, misty-sunshibe & little. Wet season since Wednesday last, I wrote a
letter to G.C. Taylor about the young man who applied at J. Taylor's yesterday- Also wrote
F.S. Taylor & sent both letters to post office. I walked to J. Taylor's- E. Pendleton &
children, Tho's Barbour & family, T. Crutchfield & wife dined there- they spoke of coming
to see me next Wednesday-
9, Rained last night a little,cloudy & rainy day. Heavy rain w'th thunder ab't 11
o'clock,broken clouds evening. Took out 33d Hhd corn. Let Malachi Atkins have ½ Bar'l
Corn to send to Mill. John Martin jr came to enquire if I had bacon to sell. he went away
before dinner & his father sent a Note by his son George & got 2 Shoulders & 1 Gammon
40 lb to be paid for in a month at 1/1 ½ p/r lb. J. Taylor sent tray of flour borrow'd last
week. The large White Sow had a litter of 9 pigs and The Guinea Sow had 6 do.
10, Foggy morning- Warm fair day. M. Atkins got out 4 ½ Bus Wheat to sow. I staid at
home- Killed a Squirrel & 9 doves.
11, Cloudy morning, Sunshine & broken clouds. Killed a Shoat, sent 2 quarters by George
to W. Stewart 15 lb. M.Atkins took out 4 ½ Bus Wheat to sow. James Taylor & wife, John
Pendleton & do. & daughter Caty, Thomas Barbour & wife & 4 youngest children, T.
Crutchfield & wife & some of the children.
12, A little fog & clouds. M.Atkins took out 4Bus Wheat to sow. Roger Bell came here-
received the Shoulder of Bacon for G.C.Taylor left here the 4th instant. He also received 6
Bushels Wheat for G.C.T. to sow & begins to-day. I walked to Reuben Taylor's - Brother
James & those who were here yesterday dined there I sent 6 Bushels corn & got ground at
McKinney's-
13, Fair & very warm. Roger Bell sent my Cart (which he borrowed yesterday) By Negro
Anthony & got 14 Bushels Wheat. M. Atkins took 4 ½ Bushels Wheat to sow. I bought a
peck of Onions of Maj'r Moore's Joe & pd 1/6. Walked to J. Taylor's in evening, Mrs Bell,
Chas Bel, & J.P. & family, T.B. & do. & T. Crutchfield & wife there. Roger Bell sent Antony
& got ½ Bar'l Corn, at night-
