1799, September, 14, Fair and warm- one or two very light showers rain in evening. M. Atkins took 4½ Bus' Wheat to sow. Roger Bell sent Anthony with Cart and got for G.C. Taylor 9 Bus Wheat to sow. C. Taylor jr got a small bowl of butter,his father called here returning from a visit to Wm Gilbert who continues very ill at Aunt Taylor's. Aunt Taylor, Bro'r James's wife, Tho's Barbour's wife & Chas Taylor sent and got a Basket peaches each. _____Parr sent Julian King's son & got 2 lb Butter. I had to take it out of a pot & rec'd 2/6 for it. I went to C. Taylor's- Mrs Eliz'a Conway, her daughters Betsy & Sally, sons Francis and Henry, Harry Fitzhugh & wife, Lucy Fitzhugh, John Conway & Alice Thornton (a daughter Charles) dined there, Wm Gibson & boys-____Lumsdale & do, at C. Taylor's. 15, Sunday, Fair,warm. I was unwell and dined at home- J. Taylor with his two boys & J. Pendleton's three,was here in evening- out Watermelons. 16, Fair. M. Atkins took out 4½ Bus' Wheat to sow. J.Taylor sent a Dollar & got 6lb R. Bell sent Nelson & got 2 Bus Wheat. Took out 34 Hhd Corn. Wm Bowling was here wants employment as Overseer. 17, A little fog- Fair warm. I feel very uneasy in bowels. M. Atkins took about a bushel Early Wheat to sow on this side Drake's Branch & 2½ Bushels Common do making 42 Bus' in Barnfield & 22½ Bushels in middle field- ab't 1 Bus of it Early Roger Bell was here with Cart & got for G.C. Taylor a Shoulder Bacon 13 lb, ½ Barrel Corn & 9 Bushels wheat, making to this time, 26 lb Bacon, 2 Barl’s Corn & 40 Bushels Wheat. Finished sowing & putting in Wheat, 41 Bushels Red & 1 Bus Early- Sown in Barnfield & 22½ Bushels in middle field, Total sown 64½ Bushels Got done Sowing Wheat about 4 o'clock in evening. Began to pull blades in middle field- Patrick Bell send Aggy & got a quart Whisky. G.C. Taylor got here from Caroline in evening. 18, Rained a little last night- cloudy, rained in evening & night. J. Taylor came here to breakfast, returned after. G.C. Taylor went to Court house & returned here at night. Major John McKinney was here, said he wanted to buy Wheat. I did not bargain with him. Reuben Taylor called & returned shot for some borrowed- C. Taylor sent Jeffery & got ½ Barrel Corn. 19, Thursday, Rainy morning- cleared by noon,cool evening. G.C. Taylor went before breakfast to C. Taylor's, thence to J. Taylor's & back at night. Took out 35th Hhd Corn, I went to J. Taylor's and dined there, G.C. Taylor, John Pendleton & family- T. Crutchfield & wife there. Mr Paul Verdier came to J. Taylor's for Hay and walked to my house, got 6 Gammons bacon 75 lb to pay for it at Court at 1/1½ p/r lb. Aunt Taylor sent Hannah & got a Basket Peaches. Pat from C. Taylor's got a basket of Peaches & candles of G.C. Taylor's- brought molasses for some borrowed. Roger Bell sent Anthony & got 1½ bus Corn for G.C.T. 20, Fair and pleasant. G.C. Taylor went to J. Taylor's to breakfast, returned here to dinner, went to C. Conway's in evening- J. Taylor, J. Pendleton, Thomas Crutchhfield & Reuben Taylor dined here- Doct'r Waford called here in vening, enquired for G.C. Taylor- said he was on his way to Wythe County. They sent from J. Taylor's & got a good many Peaches. Gathering my blades yesterday & to day in middle field. Had Leather coat & white apples gathered, about a Bushel of L coats, ½ Bushel white Apples. 21, Saturday, Some broken clouds- some sun and warm. J. Pendleton, T. Crutchfield & the boys walked by from J. Taylor's. I put some provision & a bottle Whisky with provision from J. Taylor's and walked with them to a Squirrel hunt & barbecue at the Spring where Hodge once lived- There was thirty or forty people and spent the day agreeably &c. My fodder blades cocked in middle field- and began to pull in barn field- 22, Fair (except a few broken clouds) and pleasant. I went to J. Taylor's to dinner. John Pendleton & family, T. Crutchfield & wife & Mrs Wm Daniel were there- G.C. Taylor came here from C. Conway's at night. --[SUNDAY]--
