One Richardson, with another man, called here in the evening to enquire what sort of land is upon Blackford's Creek, and said he had bought a tract of 1,000 acres adjoining. [Blackford's Creek divides Daviess & Hancock Counties, Ky., Many Taylor descendants of Jonathan Taylor live there now on same land.-WKA] 20, Cloudy, cool weather and a very little rain. Clear evening. Killed a Heifer- a fore Qr. sent to J.Taylor 46 lb. we had a fore Qr of him some time ago. Capt Burnley dined here- J.Taylor here in evening- Thompson Taylor came here from his father's this morning & brought Cloathes for the boys. [Thompson, Richard & Colby, sons of Commodore Richard Taylor. WKA] 21, Smart frost. T.Barbour & J.Taylor jr called here on their way to Fredericksb'g 22, Killing frost. Cold & windy day- My father, the boys & I went to Squirrel hunt at Schoolhouse. Maj'r Moore, J.Taylor, Reu Taylor, Geo Shepherd, Capt Burnley, Jas Bell, Geo Taylor (Redplains), Mr.Snodgrass & boys were there. 23, [SUNDAY] Frost, not quite so cold as yesterday. Bror's James & Charles dined here. 24, My father, Thompson Taylor & I went to Court. I bo't a Calfskin &c. 25, I bought 10 1/2 Gallons Cyder of E.Atkins- My father, T.Taylor & I dined at J.Taylor's. J.Taylor jr & J.Barbour jr caught a Fox & came there after dinner. Peggy Bickers there. 26, Mr.Wm.Taylor rode here to inform my father he was not provided to pay off his bond. G.Taylor, T.Taylor & I went to C.Taylor's. Mrs Stewart, The Overseer & wife, a daughter of Abner Porter's dined there. 27, Thompson Taylor set off very early for Caroline- a good day for travelling. 28, Heard this day was appointed for Gen'l Muster. I went with my father to Court house, but did not see 20 people there- Ret'd to dinner. Finished sowing Wheat, between 50 & 60 bushels. 29, A Male Company met & had a Barbecue at the Schoolhouse- My father, Uncle Taylor Mr Shepherd, Mr.T.Bell & sons. Maj'r Moore & do., J.Taylor & do., Reu Taylor & do, Wm & Geo.Taylor [of Redplains], Capt Burnley, Capt Conway & Mr.Snodgrass there 'twas a fine day. 30, [SUNDAY] Warm day, Something windy. Dined at home. 31, I took Salts. My father rode to store at Court house- Uncle Taylor was there and came here to dinner. November, 1, I called at Uncle Taylor's & went with him to Howards Store. They have only a few goods yet. I ret'd to Uncle Taylor's. My father, Capt Burnley & wife- Mrs Dade, Rob't Taylor's family, John Taylor's family and Mrs Balmain were there. Treading out Wheat yesterday & to day. 2, Moderate smoky weather. Turneps put in hole. 3, Rained last night and to day moderately. Cool with Spits of Snow in evening. 4, Ice and ground frozen this morning- a good day- I walked in the evening to J.Taylor's- J.Taylor jr and Nancy got home from J.Pendleton's. 5, Smart Frost. 6, [SUNDAY] Mr W.Taylor sent an invitation to my father, Uncle Taylor & self, to dine with him. Uncle Taylor came by & Reu Taylor, who had come here, went with us & dined here [at Redplains. PFT]. 7, Killed a Steer wt 60 a Quarter. Sent Wheat to Mill & had flour. A Vestry was appointed to day at Court house. I went there but only five members met- Mr.Langham's Store had a load of goods to day- I lent Mr.Howard a Half Joe- 9 p.w. 2 gr.-to pay waggoner.
