Cold, storming & disagreable -- Blustering with light snow or hail squalls -- March came in like a lion and went out like a son of a gun. April seems to be starting in the same way -- Work as usual -- Bed at 2:30 -- April Fool Day -- Not much fooling --
Friday April 2
Cloudy & chilly -- Work as usual on Mining day -- Home at 2:30 -- Setup awhile, read, etc, good fire & didnt go to bed till after daylight --
Saturday April 3
Variable but more pleasant -- letter from wife, returning pass, as she cant come, so I will go down tomorrow -- Bed at 3:30 --

Clear & pleasant -- Took morning train for Reno -- Went on time & arrived at Reno at 12 N -- Found all right -- PM the Hammond girls, Alice Hull & another girl, all going home from Church to the Bishop's school called in & we had very merry pleasant chat -- afterward Mrs Keating, who used to be with us in Gold called with her sister

Mrs Murray & husband -- & 2 babies -- The Murrays have ranch little north of Reno -- They came in from the ranch -- Mrs K been in [???] last 6 or 7 years, & now just come in and is going on a visit east -- Eveneing home -- Bed 9 --

Cloudy & cool but pleasant -- Got cup coffee & went to depot -- Left 10 minutes past time -- 7:20 -- arrived Va at 10 -- Work as usual -- Recd letter from Senator J G Fair Washington D.C. Also one from G W McHardy Austin with $2 for extra paper on a communication he has sent to Shaw on the Silver Question - Also recd copy of NY Tribune Almanac I sent for, and a sample tin of Le Pages Liquid glue, I sent for (10 cts) -- Bed 3:30 --
Tuesday April 6
Cloudy, blustering & disagreeable -- Judge J [Whitaker?] came on the paper today in place of Col Shaw who was discharged yesterday by the Board of trustees -- Mr
Col Shaw fired out as Editor of the Enterprise Judge [Whiteker?] substituted
Yerrington included & present -- Col Shaw has been drinking gambling and trifling with his position and neglecting his duty too much especially the last week, & this is the effect -- and the result -- Col went to Carson today to see Yerington & have the decision reversed, but didnt succeed -- I helped [Whitaker?] All I could to fix up the telegraph & gave him all the points possible in the

business he being a novice -- Evening, sent letter to wife, with pass -- Through at 2 -- Bed 4 --

More or less light snow & hail squalls during the day -- Evening clear & cold -- snow etc fell today melted fast as fell -- only laid dust a little -- no mud -- Bed: 3:30

500 passengers pass daily east or west over the Central Pacific -- Wife came on train -- We breakfasted at Chanmond's & dined at Grand Central -- She left on the 5:25 evening local passenger -- Signor Bosco with his slight of hand performance, illusionist etc and gift distribution performance opened at Opera House tonight for 3 nights -- Had big house -- Home at 2 -- Big snow storm -- About an inch on ground & lots more comming* -- Bed 3:30 --

Thomas Incest cast Bought box of Groceries at McGurne & sipped to Reno -- 1st time
it in the local -- William Thomas, formerly of Gold Hill, a miner, who married daughter of old Capt Harry George, was arrested night before last when he came off shift -- at 11 oclock, at Combination shaft, on charge of incestuous connection with his own daughter, Rosa, -- 11 years of age -- for about a year past -- Put in jail & will have examination tomorrow before justice Kehoe -- I bought a selection of groceries etc, this PM at McGurn's store, amounting to $7.45 -- Had all packed in one box and shipped by freight to wife in Reno -- Work as usual -- Bed at 3 --
