Cloudy & cold, with a few light snow squalls -- Met Genl Geo E Spencer, Ex U S Senator from Alabama, on C st -- just from the East -- & stopped in to see the Comstock & hear about Hale & Norcross - Bed at 1 --
Snow R R Pass received Reno
Sunday April 19
Cloudy & cold -- Snow stormy -- Rose at 6:30, shaved, & at 8 left on train for Reno -- Bought round trip ticket $3 -- At Carson, Yerington called me into his office in the depot, & after some little persuasion gave me pass for self & wife over V & T RR till Dec 31st -- It was snowing hard when I left Va, -- more at Carson -- 2 inches at Steamboat, & still snowing -- Arrived Reno 12 N -- no snow -- Found all right at home except all children had the whooping cough - Stewed veal for supper -- Evening, banjo & songs -- Bed at 9:30
Monday April 20
Clear & chilly -- Breakfast of stewed veal & boiled eggs -- Wife saw me off on train at 7:10 AM -- Lawyer Bonnefield on board, also Henry [Nofsinger?], the
Nofsinger Bonnefield $5 Veal
capturer of Clarence Gray, the murderer of R H Scott at Paradise last December -- He was on his way to Carson to secure the State reward of $500. If he gets it he will also get $500 offered by Scott's partner, and $150 by citizens of Paradise --
