market & report thereon in shape of advertisement -- Dan is in from Montana, where he has been prospecting around for the last year & is glad to get back -- He took me back to Va in buggy -- He is engaged to work in Waider's market Gold Hill -- The refrigerator room in the market is "Stevens' patent cooling room", a very nice invention, for cooling and keeping meats in hot weather -- [ice?] on top, etc -- PM about town & in office -- Through at 2 tonight -- Bed at 3 1/2 -- Letter from wife today says Goodie is recovering --

Warm Weather 80 deg -- Col Shaw drunk letter & telegram to wife juvenile masquerade

Friday May 29

Warm -- 80 deg -- Hottest of season so far -- Skirmished around on mining items -- Got letter from Billy Gibson the Austin postmaster -- Evening the Col was on a drunk & didnt stand in -- He came in about 10 & cut out some editorial and in 1/2 an hour left for the Sawdust Corner Gambling table - He won at the game and felt hilarious -- Duffy, one of the printers had to be detailed to run the eastern telegraph -- Bed at 3 -- I sent a short letter to my wife, enclosing the pass, and also sent telegram: "Send pass and letter tonight -- Come if necessary -- Bring Goodie." Was up to Juvenile Masquerade short time, at Pipers Opera House -- Fine --

& civic process -- & exercises at Opera House -- I attended Opera House, but didnt go out to cemetery -- Telegram from wife, said she & Alfie were coming up on evening train -- I met them & took them to dinner & then up to room & left them -- Col Shaw went to Carson, leaving Jim Townsend to run his telegraph -- I got through at 2 -- home to bed at once --

Sunday May 31

The same -- Wife & Alfie & I took walk this PM over beyond Gould & [cury?] dump etc They left on 3:25 PM train for Reno -- Home at 9 -- & wrote letter to Dr Bergstem, Reno, and to Sam Crescengo and WM Gibson, Austin -- Bed 3 -- In Gibsons letter I sent draft of a letter to G A Wilcox att'y at Washington, drumming him up --

Dusty Rain snow

Monday June 1

Clear and warm, but blustering and dusty -- passed as usual -- Col Shaw off at Carson or Reno and Jim Townsend did his telegraph for him -- Through at 2 -- Home at 3 -- read etc -- Bed at 4 --

Tuesday June 2

The same -- cooler a little -- blustering & dusty -- Work as usual -- PM reported County Commissioners -- Col Shaw returned this evening from Reno & Carson & worked all night -- Through at 1 1/2 -- Bed at 2 1/2 --

Wednesday June 3

Cloudy & cold -- PM colder and during PM from about noon several showers of rain
