Cloudy & threatening - -took morning train for Va and returned on the evening train -- Took three more passenger coaches from Carson, making 5 in all, as a free special train to Reno carrying a big crowd to attend Stewarts speaking this evening in Reno -- All the cars jammed full -- I attended the speaking awhile -- Theater full -- Home at 10 -- Bed at 11--

Stormy -- Morning rainy -- left for Va --Arr at Va on time -- It moved some this morning but melted as fast as it fell -- Occasional sprinkles of rain during the day, with a dash or two of snow in the evening -- Politics red hot & stocks up --

Silver ore from California

streets muddy -- this PM, J D Chassnell, a former Gold Hill Comstocker, now of Nevada City, Cal, who arrived here yesterday from there he gave a couple of pieces of silver ore from the Greenhorn mine, Central G & S M Co, 3 miles south of Nevada City -- First Silver mine I have yet heard In the old Gold region of California -- It goes nearly $100 to the ton, about one fourth gold -- Has been worked as a gold mine for the last 20 years, yielding over $500,000 and only recently realized to be a silver
