Wednesday Jan. 19

Rose at 7 -- Snowing furiously and about 8 inches on ground -- Shaved and left on 8 oclock train for Carson -- Got there on time -- About 2 inches of snow there and little more falling, with some rain -- Muddy -- Reported Legislature as usual, and got report off on evening train at 5:15 -- Went to theater, and saw three acts of Uncle Tom's Cabin by Horace Ewing's company, from San Francisco -- Pretty good -- Had a good house last evening, but poor one tonight -- I went up to reception of Gov. Stevenson and wife, at their residence in NW aristocratic part of Carson -- Everybody there -- Nice lunch of salad, cake, nuts, sandwiches, etc., and some very thin punch

or claret lemonade -- very harmless -- Staid half an hour -- Down town again -- Run with Hugh J. Mohan awhile -- Bed at 1:30 at Circe's Hotel -- Had to sleep in double bed room, with Dick Kirman of Va -- Clear and freezing -- Cleared off about dark -- Hard bed, but slept well-

Some what cloudy but Springlike -- Stood in as usual -- Evening train to Va -- No snow
