Clear, warm & pleasant -- Big base ball game at Recreation ground, below town, between National Guard team and Young Mens Literary Institute team -- Latter won -- George Warren resigned or was fired as local, etc, of Enterprise yesterday, and Frank Wyatt of Reno came up today to take his place -- He was local on the Chronicle here, several years ago -- The International saloon reopened today after a rest of about 3 months -- Eugene Holland, lessee*, with Tom Buckner to run his faro game in the rear --

1984 Centennial Annual Meeting
Monday May 7
Clear warm & pleasant -- At noon I walked down to Gold Hill to attend annual meeting of the Centennial GG M Co -- Made it in 35 minutes, from the Va Postoffice to Gold Hill assay office where meeting was held about 2 PM. Nearly 90,000 shares out of the 100,000 represented -- I, 1793 shares in my name, and about 5,000 for Kinzle, on his proxy -- I was made President pro tem of meeting -- Following new Board of Trustees or Directors chosen: H M Gorham President; Alf Doten, Vice President, Wm S James, Secy; James S Daly, David Boisini, Bullion and Exchange Bank, Carson, Treasurer. Letters were read from A Nicholls Los Angeles, and arrangements for starting up work soon as the time discussed -- Got chance to ride back to Va -- Bed 12

Same -- The front muscles of my legs were so badly strained from my walk to Gold Hill yesterday that I was very lame today -- almost unable to walk -- Evening at theater -- Chas A Gardner -- "Karl" and splendid company in his new comedy-drama "The Prize Winner" -- Lots of good singing, dancing etc -- Very good entertainment & good house -- Bed 1 -- Legs so lame that hard to

Same -- Very dry & dusty -- No street sprinkling -- Wrote letters to the J B Williams Co, Glastonbury Conn, acknowledging receipt of last lot of soap and inclosing sprig of sagebrush -- to wife -- to Hon R L Horton for copy of "Nevada and Her Resources" and the SF Chronicle with 20 cts & 14 coupons for books No 3 & 4 our "Our Country & Our Neighbors" -- Bed at 1 -- A break in Stox -- Con Va dow to 5.50 from 8.50 of last Saturday and Monday --

Same -- Bed 12 -- The letters I wrote yesterday I was too late for the mail with, so they went today with revisions & additions -- Big lot of folks left this PM for the Midwinter fair -- Excursion trip -- $7.50 for round

Same -- very dusty, breezy & disagreeable -- PM meeting of the Exempts -- Didn't attend -- McKinnon lessee of Enterprise got me and directed that I take hold and assume the position of local editor and reporter of that paper commencing tomorrow morning. I consented. Bed 12 --
Monday May 14
Stormy, dusty blustering, chilly and filthy day -- PM a light snow laid the dust a little -- cold & raw toward evening -- I went to work as local of the Enterprise this PM -- Took chair, scissors & paste pat down to office -- went through exchanges -- Myself and Geo R Paynter, the editor in chief work in same room -- front office -- Wrote lots & got up good local. Through reading the proofs & left office at 1,30 -- Bed at 2:30 -- About 2 inches of snow on the roofs & walks -- melted in the streets as it fell.

Clear & cold -- Snow and ice in shade, all day -- sharp cold wind from S.W. Localized as usual -- Office started in, setting type, an hour earlier than usual -- 6 PM -- so I followed suit -- from 2 PM to 12:30 when I read last

Clear, cool & pleasant -- Localized as usual -- Bed 1,30 -- Got my hair cut or trimmed today --
Thursday May 17
Same -- As usual -- Bed 1:30 -- John McKinnon lessee of the Enterprise left this evening for San F on business --
Friday May 18
Cloudy and variable -- light showers in PM and evening laid the dust and joyuously refreshed the verdent sagebrush -- Worked as usual -- Got through early and bed at 1:30 -- Clear & pleasant.

Variable & cool -- Recieved a letter from Mrs [Lowancia] Pease Lyman, sister of G W Pease, Downers Grove, Illinois, inclosing postal order for $5, as a friendly present in token acknowledgement of my letter of April 25th. Real nice letter -- written with pencil -- Says she is 72
