Snowstorm most of day -- about 2 inches -- First day of Johnny Jones trial in U S Dist Court for stealing from the Carson Mint when he was employed there as Assistant Melter and Refiner -- reported -- 10 Jurors selected exhausted the venire of 50, and open venire ordered for 12 more -- at 1 PM court adjourned till 10 AM tomorrow -- Sent letter to Journal -- Rec'd letter from Kinzle -- Bed 12:30 -- light snow & very cold -- 16° --

Same -- Snowsqually & very cold & wintry -- 6 or 8 inches snow fell on Comstock this storm -- Jury completed this AM, & Genl Clarke, assistant U S Dist Atty made opening statement to the Jury for the prosecution -- Warren Noteware, chief clerk of the Mint occupied the PM with expert testimony on the books etc of the institution -- Comstock payroll for Feb-
