Republican State Convention

A press telegram from Portsmouth NH, Sept 12 says: The City of Rome with 1700 Spaniards aboard, including Admiral Cervera and other officers sailed from here today for Spain -- Hon C C Powning is a very sick man and liable to drop out most any day -- Since his return from Cal, Aug 26, where he went for his health, he has further declined, and is confined to his house entirely -- His days are evidently numbered --

Wednesday Sept 14

Same -- Morning train east I sent brief note to Wells Herald making some corrections in my letter of yesterday -- Many delegates, candidates, etc arriving during day & evening for the Rep State Convention tomorrow -- also many prominent Silverites, candidates, etc -- Big crowd on evening 10:10 train from east --

Thursday Sept 15

Same -- The Rep State Convention met at Wheelmen's Hall at noon -- Commenced with a caucus of the whole for couple of hours -- Got regularly started about 2 PM, with O H Grey as Permanent chairman & the Secy & Sgt
